MULTI-CREW
COOPERATION (MCC)

THINK AS A CREW. OPERATE AS A TEAM.

The Multi-Crew Cooperation course develops the communication, leadership, workload-management and decision-making skills required to operate effectively as part of a multi-pilot flight crew.

OVERVIEW

FROM SINGLE-PILOT THINKING
TO MULTI-CREW OPERATIONS

The MCC(A) course prepares pilots for the multi-pilot cockpit environment by developing practical cooperation, communication, leadership, situational awareness and task-management skills. Training combines structured theoretical instruction with scenario-based simulator exercises.

A professional cockpit is not two pilots flying separately — it is one crew working toward one shared outcome.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

LEARN TO OPERATE
AS PART OF A CREW

The MCC programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical simulator scenarios designed to develop cooperation, communication, leadership, monitoring and workload-management skills in a realistic multi-crew environment.

VIEW DETAILED CURRICULUM

FROM INDIVIDUAL PILOT TO EFFECTIVE CREW MEMBER

Training progresses from CRM principles and SOP discipline to structured crew coordination, abnormal scenarios and airline-style multi-crew operations.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

ARRIVE READY FOR
MULTI-CREW TRAINING

MCC training is intended for pilots progressing toward multi-pilot aircraft and professional airline operations. The ATO will verify that applicants have the licence, theoretical knowledge and operational background appropriate to their training pathway.

MCC COURSE ENTRYBefore starting the course
  • Hold the appropriate aeroplane pilot licence for the intended professional pathway
  • Meet applicable theoretical knowledge requirements for the subsequent class or type-rating pathway
  • Meet ATO admission and training-record requirements
  • Have sufficient instrument and procedural knowledge for effective simulator participation
  • Demonstrate adequate English-language and cockpit communication capability
  • Complete required course familiarisation and pre-training briefings
THEORY TRAINING

UNDERSTAND HOW
EFFECTIVE CREWS WORK

The theoretical phase develops the behavioural and operational principles that underpin safe multi-crew operations, including communication, leadership, decision-making, monitoring and workload distribution.

THEORY & EXERCISESMinimum 25 hours

MULTI-CREW KNOWLEDGECore training areas
  • Multi-crew cooperation principles
  • Crew Resource Management
  • Leadership and followership
  • Communication and briefing techniques
  • Task sharing and workload management
  • Situation awareness
  • Decision-making
  • Monitoring and cross-checking
  • Threat and error management
  • SOP discipline and crew coordination
SIMULATOR TRAINING

PUT TEAMWORK
INTO PRACTICE

The standard MCC(A) course includes at least 20 hours of practical MCC training in an FNPT II MCC or FFS. Exercises focus on realistic multi-crew operations rather than individual aircraft-handling performance.

PRACTICAL MCC TRAININGMinimum 20 hours

SIMULATOR EXERCISESMulti-crew operating practice
  • PF and PM role allocation and transfer of control
  • Normal SOP-based multi-crew operations
  • Briefings, callouts and standard communication
  • Flight-path monitoring and cross-checking
  • Workload sharing during high-workload phases
  • Abnormal and emergency scenarios
  • Decision-making and threat management as a crew
  • Scenario-based multi-crew consolidation
COURSE OUTCOMES

DEVELOP THE SKILLS
TO FUNCTION AS A CREW

MCC training is designed to develop multi-crew competencies rather than issue a licence or class rating. Successful completion demonstrates completion of the required MCC training programme.

COMPLETIONWhat the course develops
  • Effective PF and PM role management
  • Clear and disciplined cockpit communication
  • Improved workload and task management
  • Structured monitoring and cross-checking
  • Leadership, teamwork and decision-making competence
  • Application of CRM and threat-and-error-management principles
  • Certificate of completion where MCC is completed as a stand-alone course
NEXT STEPS

MOVE INTO THE
AIRLINE TRAINING ENVIRONMENT

MCC bridges the gap between single-pilot training and the structured multi-crew cockpit. It supports progression into aircraft type ratings and airline-oriented selection and training pathways.

EXPLORE TRAINING

01

Type Rating

Progress into aircraft-specific multi-pilot type-rating training.

02

Airline Selection

Apply multi-crew competencies in professional recruitment and assessment environments.

03

Airline Operations

Continue toward structured operator training and line-oriented professional flying.

STANDARD MCC PATHWAYS

ONE OBJECTIVE.
DIFFERENT TRAINING ROUTES.

Part-FCL allows different minimum practical MCC durations depending on the wider training programme in which MCC is completed.

20 hStandalone MCCStandard practical MCC training requirement.

15 hATP IntegratedMinimum practical MCC training for integrated ATP students.

10 hCombined with Initial Type RatingPossible minimum when the same qualifying FSTD is used for both programmes.

MULTI-CREW OPERATIONS

ONE COCKPIT. ONE CREW.

Build the communication, coordination and workload-management skills that turn two qualified pilots into an effective flight crew.

CREW COORDINATION

COMMUNICATE CLEARLY.
OPERATE TOGETHER.

MCC training shifts the focus from individual aircraft handling to coordinated crew performance, disciplined procedures and shared situational awareness.
