ADVANCED UPSET PREVENTION
& RECOVERY TRAINING (AUPRT)
Advanced UPRT develops the resilience, situational awareness and aircraft-handling competence required to recognise developing upset conditions and apply appropriate recovery techniques in a dynamic flight environment.
BUILD RESILIENCE.
MASTER THE UNEXPECTED.
Advanced UPRT goes beyond basic upset awareness. The programme exposes pilots to the physiological, psychological and aerodynamic aspects of aircraft upset while developing practical prevention and recovery skills in an aeroplane suitable for the training task.

Upset recovery begins with recognition, discipline and the ability to remain effective under pressure.
FROM AWARENESS
TO EFFECTIVE RECOVERY
The programme combines theoretical understanding, structured briefings and practical flight exercises. Training focuses on preventing aircraft upsets, recognising developing conditions early and applying appropriate recovery techniques while managing physiological and psychological effects.
FROM PREVENTION TO RECOVERY
Training progresses from knowledge and awareness through practical exposure, recognition, recovery and consolidation of resilient operating habits.

PREPARE FOR
ADVANCED TRAINING
Advanced UPRT is aimed at pilots progressing toward professional and advanced aircraft qualifications. The ATO will verify licence status, recent flying experience and suitability for the course before practical training begins.
- Hold an appropriate aeroplane pilot licence for the intended training pathway
- Meet the ATO admission and training-record requirements
- Be medically fit for the intended flying activity
- Have sufficient recent aircraft-handling competence for safe participation
- Complete required pre-course briefings and familiarisation
- Comply with any additional ATO or competent-authority requirements applicable to the training programme
UNDERSTAND
WHY UPSETS HAPPEN
The theoretical element establishes the aerodynamic, human-factors and operational foundation required to recognise and manage aircraft upset situations safely.
- Aerodynamics of aircraft upset
- Energy management
- Stall and approach-to-stall awareness
- High and low energy states
- Load factor and aircraft limitations
- Physiological effects of dynamic upset
- Psychological and startle effects
- Situational awareness and threat management
- Prevention strategies
- Recovery principles and decision-making
EXPERIENCE THE UPSET.
APPLY THE RECOVERY.
Advanced UPRT includes at least three hours of dual instruction in an aeroplane qualified for the training task with an FI(A) holding the required FCL.915(e) qualification.
- Pre-flight briefing before practical exercises
- Recognition and prevention of developing upset conditions
- Approach-to-stall awareness and recovery
- High-bank and unusual-attitude recovery
- Spiral-dive recognition and recovery principles
- Energy and flight-path management
- Exposure to physiological and psychological effects of dynamic upset
- Post-flight debriefing and performance review
DEVELOP COMPETENCE.
BUILD RESILIENCE.
Advanced UPRT is a competency-development course rather than a licence or class rating. Successful completion demonstrates that the pilot has completed the required advanced upset prevention and recovery programme.
- Improved recognition of developing aircraft upset situations
- Greater resilience to startle and physiological effects
- More disciplined flight-path and energy management
- Competence in applying appropriate upset-recovery techniques
- Enhanced situational awareness and decision-making under pressure
- ATO Certificate of Completion after successful completion of the course
MOVE TOWARD
ADVANCED AIRCRAFT TRAINING
Advanced UPRT supports progression into demanding professional training environments and is a prerequisite for several advanced class and type-rating pathways under Part-FCL.
PREPARE FOR
HIGHER-COMPLEXITY OPERATIONS
Advanced UPRT is specifically designed to expose pilots to dynamic conditions and physiological effects that cannot be fully reproduced through conventional flight training alone.
UPSET RECOVERY
CONTROL STARTS WITH RECOGNITION.
Learn to identify developing threats early, manage energy effectively and recover with disciplined aircraft-control inputs.
STAY AHEAD.
RECOVER WITH PURPOSE.
Advanced UPRT develops more than a manoeuvre. It strengthens the pilot’s ability to recognise, assess and respond correctly when the aircraft moves outside the expected flight condition.
