PIC TIME
BUILDING

BUILD EXPERIENCE WITH PURPOSE

Structured PIC Time Building helps pilots accumulate meaningful pilot-in-command experience while developing navigation, planning, decision-making and operational confidence for the next stage of professional flight training.

OVERVIEW

MORE THAN HOURS.
BUILD REAL EXPERIENCE.

PIC Time Building is designed for licensed pilots who need additional command experience before progressing to advanced training. Rather than simply accumulating hours, the programme encourages structured route planning, cross-country exposure and disciplined operational decision-making.

Flight time becomes valuable experience when every flight has a purpose, a plan and a lesson.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

BUILD HOURS.
DEVELOP AS A PILOT.

The programme is structured around meaningful PIC operations. Pilots progressively build experience through flight preparation, local operations, navigation flights, longer cross-country sectors and varied operational environments.

REQUEST A FLIGHT PLAN

FROM LOCAL FLYING TO STRUCTURED CROSS-COUNTRY EXPERIENCE

Every stage is designed to expand operational confidence while building the command experience required for future training objectives.

ELIGIBILITY

FLY WITHIN YOUR
LICENCE PRIVILEGES

PIC Time Building is available to pilots who already hold the licence and applicable class privileges required to act as pilot in command of the aircraft used.

BEFORE YOU FLYTypical programme requirements
  • Hold a valid aeroplane pilot licence with appropriate PIC privileges
  • Hold a valid class rating for the aircraft to be operated
  • Meet applicable medical requirements
  • Meet applicable recency and passenger-carrying requirements where relevant
  • Complete aircraft familiarisation, differences or checkout requirements as applicable
  • Meet ANC Aviation operational and aircraft-rental requirements
FLIGHT PLANNING

DON’T JUST FLY.
PLAN EVERY HOUR.

Effective time building starts with a clear objective. Routes and flight profiles can be structured around cross-country experience, unfamiliar aerodromes, navigation complexity and the requirements of the pilot’s next training milestone.

STRUCTURED PLANNINGBuild useful experience
  • Local familiarisation flights
  • Cross-country route planning
  • Operations to unfamiliar aerodromes
  • Navigation and diversion practice
  • Weather and operational decision-making
  • Fuel, mass-and-balance and performance planning
  • Flight-time monitoring against future licence and rating targets
EXPERIENCE BUILDING

TURN FLIGHT TIME INTO
OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE

PIC hours can support progression toward higher licences and ratings when they meet the applicable Part-FCL crediting and experience requirements. The objective is to build both logbook experience and practical confidence.

EXPERIENCE DEVELOPMENTSkills strengthened during PIC flying
  • Independent flight planning
  • Cross-country navigation
  • Aerodrome familiarisation
  • Radio communication
  • Weather interpretation
  • Operational decision-making
  • Fuel management
  • Threat and error awareness
  • Workload management
  • Command confidence
PROGRAMME BENEFITS

MAKE EVERY HOUR
COUNT TOWARD YOUR GOAL

Structured time building helps pilots avoid accumulating repetitive hours without developmental value. Each flight can be selected to strengthen specific competencies while supporting future licensing objectives.

WHY STRUCTURED PIC BUILDING?Experience with direction
  • Build eligible PIC experience toward future licensing objectives
  • Increase cross-country flight exposure
  • Experience a wider variety of routes and operating environments
  • Develop independent command decision-making
  • Maintain continuity between formal training programmes
  • Prepare more effectively for CPL, IR and multi-engine progression
NEXT STEPS

USE YOUR EXPERIENCE
TO MOVE FORWARD

Once the required experience has been accumulated, the next step depends on your professional pathway. PIC Time Building commonly supports progression toward commercial, instrument and multi-engine qualifications.

EXPLORE TRAINING

01

CPL(A)

Progress toward commercial pilot training once the applicable experience requirements are met.

02

IR(A)

Build the command and cross-country foundation for instrument-rating progression.

03

MEP / Professional Pathway

Continue toward multi-engine and advanced professional qualifications.

BUILD TOWARD YOUR TARGET

KNOW THE HOURS.
UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE.

Experience requirements vary according to the licence or rating being pursued. We can structure a flying plan around the pilot’s current logbook and next training objective.

CPL PathwayBuild total, PIC and cross-country experience toward CPL(A) requirements.
Instrument PathwayDevelop command and cross-country experience before advanced IFR training.
Professional PathwayIncrease operational experience and confidence before advanced training.

PIC EXPERIENCE

YOUR FLIGHT. YOUR DECISIONS.

Build command confidence through real planning, real navigation and meaningful operational experience.

FLY WITH PURPOSE

EXPAND YOUR RANGE.
BUILD YOUR EXPERIENCE.

Every new route, aerodrome and operational decision adds depth to your experience. Structured PIC flying turns required flight time into preparation for the professional training ahead.
